Celebrate spring in full bloom with a 10-mile easy-to-moderately easy hike at Lake Somerville State Park. April is peak wildflower season here, and the trails burst with vibrant color - fields of bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush, and countless other blooms lining the path.
We’ll begin at the Nails Creek access road and make our way through some of the park’s most scenic areas, including a visit to Flag Pond and a loop through the peaceful, nature-rich Waldo’s Loop. Expect gentle terrain, wide-open views, and plenty of opportunities to stop for photos or simply soak in the beauty of spring in Central Texas.
This hike is perfect for anyone who wants a relaxed, refreshing outdoor experience surrounded by nature’s best colors of the year.
After our hike, we’ll head over to Burton Short Stop to enjoy some good food.
Pro tip: Be sure and make your day pass reservation online, and bring a printed copy with you since our starting point is outside of where the park HQ is located.
