Wassailing is an old folk tradition of honouring the orchard — singing to the trees, making merry noise to drive away mischief, and pouring spiced cider or juice at the roots to call in a rich harvest. Our celebration brings this tradition into a mindful, heart-centred space, weaving together community, ceremony, and nature magic.
At Forest Harvest we are inviting folk to join us in the old Winter tradition of WASSAILING, meeting at Woodmill Farm car park (Paul Shum Butchers/Green Door Bakery) at 4.30pm on Sunday 11th January 2026.
We planted a small orchard to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and in this “mast” year of bumper crops the yield was good. Not resting on our laurels, the trees need to be blessed and woken from their slumber. Toast and cider will be offered to the apple trees and the wildlife that lives amongst them. We will start our procession from Woodmill Farm car park; bring your own kitchen pans and spoons to riotously bash them and make a noise so the trees can hear us! You might also like to bring a torch/headtorch - pathways will be lit by led candles.
Cider and toast are provided for the offering to the trees, and mulled apple juice and local cider will be enjoyed together afterwards. Families and children are very welcome.
