Celebrating Craft, Community and Creativity at Number Nine
There is something special about ceramics. It invites us to slow down, to notice texture, form and the quiet beauty of something made by hand. As we look ahead to the 2026 Ceramics Festival, I find myself reflecting on just how important these moments of connection are for our town, our makers and everyone who walks through our doors.

At Number Nine, The Marketplace, ceramics have always held a central place within our artisan community. From delicate porcelain pieces to bold sculptural forms, each maker brings their own story, technique and perspective. The festival is not just a celebration of ceramics, it is a celebration of the people behind them.

What the Ceramics Festival Means to Us
The 2026 Ceramics Festival is an opportunity for us to shine a light on the incredible ceramicists within our community and beyond. It is a chance to bring together artists, collectors and curious visitors who share an appreciation for handmade work.

At Number Nine, The Marketplace, we are more than just a gallery space. We are a place where creativity is nurtured, where makers are supported and where visitors are encouraged to take their time. Our ethos of fika, that moment to slow down and appreciate the good things, sits perfectly alongside the nature of ceramics.
During the festival, we will be showcasing a curated selection of ceramic work that highlights the diversity of styles and techniques within our artisan community. From functional pieces designed for everyday use to one of a kind artworks, there will be something to discover at every turn.

As part of our 2026 Ceramics Festival, we are also really pleased to welcome back some familiar faces alongside our ceramicists. Bemora Kitchen will be joining us with their incredible Asian fusion food, and we will also be joined again by Felt Beautiful and Pots & Petals, who have been part of previous years and always bring something special to the atmosphere of the day.

A Celebration of Our Artisan Community
One of the things I am most proud of is the strength of our artisan community. Number Nine represents over 50 independent artists, makers and designers, many of whom work with clay in beautifully different ways.

The festival gives us the opportunity to tell their stories more fully. It allows visitors to understand not just what they are buying, but who they are supporting. Every glaze, every mark and every form carries the touch of the maker.
You might discover:
• Hand thrown mugs that become part of your daily ritual
• Sculptural pieces that transform a space
• Delicate jewellery crafted from porcelain and precious finishes
• Functional tableware designed to be used and loved
Each piece reflects hours of skill, patience and passion. That is what makes ceramics so meaningful.

Why It Matters for Hornsea
Events like the Ceramics Festival are not just about art. They play a real role in supporting our local economy and keeping our high street vibrant.

When someone visits Hornsea for the festival, they do not just step into Number Nine. They explore the town, visit other independent shops, stop for coffee and spend time here. That ripple effect supports multiple small businesses and helps our town to thrive.

For example:
• A visitor might purchase a handmade ceramic jug from one of our makers, then head next door for lunch, supporting another local business.
• A returning customer who discovered a ceramic artist during the festival may come back months later to buy a gift, continuing that cycle of support.
Shopping local is not just a transaction. It is an investment in people, in creativity and in the future of our community.

What Makes Number Nine Different
There are many places to buy ceramics, but what makes Number Nine, The Marketplace different is the way we bring everything together.

We are not simply a retail space. We are a platform for independent creatives. A place where emerging and established makers sit side by side. A space that feels welcoming, calm and thoughtfully curated.

Everything we do is rooted in supporting our makers. That means:
• Giving them visibility within a physical space
• Sharing their stories through our website and social media
• Creating opportunities like exhibitions and festivals to showcase their work
When you step into Number Nine, you are not just browsing. You are engaging with a community.

Looking Ahead to 2026
As we prepare for the 2026 Ceramics Festival, I am excited about what is to come. There will be new makers to discover, fresh collections to explore and inspiring displays that celebrate the versatility of clay.

We are carefully curating pieces that reflect both tradition and innovation. Ceramics is a medium that constantly evolves, and this festival will showcase that beautifully.

More than anything, I am looking forward to welcoming people into the space. To seeing conversations happen between makers and visitors. To watching someone pick up a piece and instantly connect with it.
Those moments are what it is all about.

Join Us and Be Part of It
The 2026 Ceramics Festival is an invitation. Whether you are a long time supporter of handmade work or simply curious to explore something new, there is a place for you here.

By choosing to visit, to browse and to shop local, you are directly supporting independent makers and helping our creative community to grow. Learn about our amazing artisan community through our website and social media channels and experience the heart and soul of our community in Hornsea.
