About Generative DanceGenerative dance is a body-based practice that promotes self-awareness and connection with others.It offers experiences that involve music, guided body movements, and group interactions. Each session focuses on a theme or human skill experienced through movement allowing participants to gain insights and new perspectives about their personal experience of the given theme. Some examples of themes include Balance, Adaptability, Self-care, and Vitality.This practice is rooted in the well-known and widely researched relationship between emotions, body, and mind. Since talking is limited during the session, attention is focused on body signals such as comfort, discomfort, ease, and tension, allowing participants to surface emotional needs and connect with positive emotions.The pair and group interactions provide opportunities to work on barriers to connection by actively practicing trust, self-expression, and empathy. During the sessions, participants are encouraged to embrace a brave space to practice aspirational human or leadership skills in a supportive group setting. She holds 2 Facilitation and Coaching certifications on a practitioner and master level from the ontological coaching school Indelser Consultores, as well as a corporal coaching certificate. Her experiences as an immigrant, woman of color, and member of the Latin community are part of the lenses she brings to her work. During the last 4 years, she has been actively involved in BC’s nonprofit sector in initiatives intended to support women, immigrants, and other groups who experience multiple systemic barriers. As an employee and more recently with her social consulting firm Expansion Works, she has assisted local and national organizations with strategic planning, program evaluation and co-design, learning resources development, community engagement, facilitation, and coaching. Marialejandra is committed to creating brave spaces for impactful learning and inclusive engagement. AcknowledgementGenerative Dance is influenced by different holistic practices to promote physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing including Biodanza, Bioenergetics, and Yoga. The facilitator has learned these practices from certified practitioners through long-term training programs. The facilitator holds no official certifications for any of these individual practices.
