He began playing the shamisen in his youth and went on to win the Ensemble Division of the National Tsugaru Shamisen Competition in 1987. That same year, he made his international debut in Canada and the United States through a Japan Foundation cultural exchange program.Shuichiro has performed throughout Japan and internationally, including in Asia and North America. He leads Shuichiro & Daichi, has appeared on Japanese television and in stage productions, and has published an instructional book on Tsugaru shamisen.
