Social Band has spent this fall harvesting compositions from our latest composers project. We’ve invited composers from various musical walks of life to create new works for Social Band. In this first crop of compositions, we will premiere works by three composers, Thomas L. Read, Anna Patton and Ben Patton, as well as new works by Social Band members, Patricia Julien and Michael Kellogg (aka Clyde Powers). Join us for Social Band’s signature mix of robust harmonies and singing
camaraderie!

Thomas L. Read has composed a set of two pieces “Misgivings” and “Blow, blow, Thou Winter Wind”. The first is a setting of an 1860 poem by Herman Melville with words that reflect the tumult of those years in American history. It is paired with a quirky setting of Shakespeare’s well-known words from As You Like It – “Blow, blow, thou winter wind. Thou art not so unkind as man’s ingratitude.” Anna Patton has offered up a soothing, hypnotic piece “Forget the Way” a setting of her own words which reflect on the ebb and flow of our human affairs. Ben Patton has contributed his first ever composition for Social Band, “Vows for Adopting a Cat” which is as diverting as it sounds.

In addition to these invited composer guests, we’ll feature songs from Social Band’s deep bench of “in-house” composers as well as some favorite works from prior composition projects, including several pieces by Irasburg composer, Sara Doncaster. 

Suggested donation is $20. But that’s just a suggestion. Pay less, pay more - whatever will make you feel good about joining us. We'll just be glad to see you!
