Join us in a celebration of Italian culture through the lens of Crellin’s novel, The Land of the Living, a sweeping historical saga of love, loss, and the search for belonging across generations.

Timothy Crellin studied Italian and lived in Bologna for a year. He has Italian citizenship, speaks fluent Italian, and visits his family in Sicily as often as possible. The other taproot of the book is Tim's deep study of war in the 20th century, and particularly the generational impact of World War I, World War II and Vietnam on immigrant families. Crellin is an Episcopal priest, raised in the Boston area and educated at Brown University and Harvard Divinity School before being ordained in 1996.  Since February of 2022 he has been Rector of St. Paul's Church in Gardner, Massachusetts.

About the book: The Land of the Living grows out of the author's fascination with his Sicilian heritage, on his mother's side. This is the gripping story of one Sicilian woman’s sacrifice as an immigrant who comes to America with her husband to pursue the American dream, only to lose everything. She perseveres in Gloucester, Massachusetts, her adopted home, until an unknown grandson enters her life.

About the Vermont Italian Cultural Association: Born out of a chance encounter and drawn together by a mutual passion for preserving and sharing Italian culture, the Vermont Italian Cultural Association founded in the 1980s by Dr. Ken Ciongoli, Dr. Mario Morselli, and passionate interest from Italians and Italian-Americans in the greater Burlington area. Sharing the bond of family and Italian traditions, celebrating the richness of Italian culture and preserving these for generations to follow was foremost in the minds of the founders.

​Honoring the founders' vision, The Vermont Italian Cultural Association remains committed to preserving and promoting Italian culture in Vermont. VICA welcomes anyone interested in Italian culture, arts, language, history and other aspects of Italian civilization. From travel talks and presentations, language groups, art and movies to cooking, luncheons and bocce socials the Vermont Italian Cultural Association will keep you discovering Italy in Vermont.

​The Vermont Italian Cultural Association is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit. The all-volunteer organization is led by a Board of Directors which is comprised of several active committees that plan annual programs, events and fundraising.
