- **Event Description**: Do you want to learn how to use your own sewing machine and gain the confidence to get started on your original sewing projects? 

This class will teach you how to do the basics with your machine as well as give you an understanding of the functions you didn't know you had, or didn't know you wanted! 

You will get to know your machine and practice on something simple. You will learn how to wind a bobbin, and thread the upper and lower parts of your machine, getting to know the various dials and their functions. You will complete some practice pieces to cement your skills and knowledge before moving on to constructing a simple raw edge diary cover that will display your new found skills. If there's time, you can start on something more challenging. We won't be making clothing in this class but you will learn some skills so you can go home and create your own handmade originals!

In addition to being a keen sewer for her family, our facilitator Susie has been teaching textiles to high school and university students for years. She is great at helping to simplify what feels like a complicated process so that you can get on with the fun parts of creating your pieces. 

Please bring your own sewing machine and your diary or a book you'd like to make a cover for. We will have material for practicing and a small sample of material you can use for your piece, and feel free to bring your own. We do have a very small number of machines in-house that you can borrow if you are keen and don't have your own machine (yet!), so please select BYO or BORROW when making your booking.
