For most of the century following her death Eva was remembered in relation to others – as a muse of W. B. Yeats or as the younger sister of the revolutionary Countess Markievicz. This is no longer the case and my talk on this St Brigid's Day will showcase the radical lives, work and politics of both Gore-Booth sisters. The two sisters left indelible marks nationally and internationally which can only now be fully appreciated.Prof. Sonja Tiernan is the national coordinator of the IHA. She studied at University College Dublin and has held visiting fellowships at Trinity College Dublin; Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies, University of Notre Dame; School of Irish Studies, Concordia University Canada and was awarded a Moore Institute visiting fellowship at the University of Galway.Prof. Tiernan has received funding from prestigious sources in support of her research, including from the Irish Research Council, the Royal Irish Academy, the National Endowment of the Humanities USA, and the Department of Foreign Affairs.Sonja is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a Research Associate of the Center for Irish & Scottish Studies at University of Otago.Prof. Tiernan's research interests lie primarily within the field of modern Irish history, with a particular focus on social and gender politics.
