The Drum has been an essential tool for healing, journeying, ceremony, prayer, and love for centuries. In this workshop you will learn the sacred art of creating and birthing your own drum with love, respect, and honor.
We will hold sacred space the entire duration of this creation process beginning with Calling in the Directions. You will be taught how to hold your intentions with the drums in prayer while you connect with this precious gift from Mother Earth. There will be beautiful music, songs to sing, and 2 Journeys.
The cost of the workshop is $125.00 per person.

You will need to reserve your space as soon as possible as space is limited to 16 people. There will be no "holding space", although we will be having a Stand By Waiting List just in case anyone cancels.
You will also need to purchase your drum making kit ahead of time so that it will arrive in plenty of time for the workshop. They usually take about a week or two for delivery so be sure to order before November 28th in order to receive your kit on time. Drum kits can range from about $80 and up depending on the type and size of the hide and the type and size of the wood hoop. Also, Fur and Hide doesn't sell complete kits, therefore you will need to order the hide, hoop frame, and lacing separately.
**Please do not order the beater or mallet kit. I will have the materials needed to make these at the workshop. Typically the ones sent by these websites are not the best quality and not large enough for a proper beater/mallet. I've got you covered.
Here are 4 websites that truly honor the hides and woods:
https://www.furandhide.com/
https://www.cedarmountaindrums.com/product/hoop-drum-kits/
https://www.crazycrow.com/native-american-drum-kits-and-supply
https://www.tribalspiritmusic.com
You may also find good quality hides and hoops on Etsy.
You will need to soak the hide and lacing a minimum of 8 hours but no more than 12 hours prior to coming to class. The length of soaking time is dependent on the type of hide you purchase. We will be posting information about the spiritual meanings of woods and animals along with reminders about soaking and spending time with your hide and wood. There will be a lot of information to read that will help you make your decision, so please keep an eye out for it.
What to Bring to the Workshop:
- If you order a pre-hole punched hide, there is no need to bring tools.
- If you order a hide that is not pre-punched, you will need to bring the following tools:
* needle nose pliers
* leather hole punching tools
* a knife and/or scissors
* a sharpie marker
Please note that the process does take longer if you have to punch the holes yourself.
Everybody Needs to Bring:
- Your drum kit which includes the hide, lacing, and wood hoop
- Bring the hide wrapped in a damp towel (you will need to put the damp towel in a plastic bag with a little water. Then place the bag in a bucket or container with lid for traveling in your vehicle)
- A few dry towels to lay on the floor or table where you will be working
- Sacred items for your own small altar space (crystals, feathers, ancestral pictures, pictures or statues of deities, things that are special to you, etc.) Space is limited, so please only bring small items.
- Refillable water bottle
- Water or your favorite beverage
- Snacks to share (fruit, nuts, muffins, granola, etc.)
Much more information will be posted and emailed in the following weeks. Please keep an eye out for updates! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me either by email at
