Charles Banda, better known by his stage name Mahlaba, is a Zimbabwean musician based in Bulawayo. He is the artistic director of renowned music and dance theatre ensemble Sunduza. His strength lies in composing, writing, directing music. Charles also doubles up as a vocal coach and has uniquely created matchless sounds in genres such as Afro-jazz / Afro-Pop / Imbube and Traditional Folk.
Influenced by artists such as Simon Banda (father), Jabu Khanyile, Bongiwe Mabandla and Don Gumbo. 

Mahlaba came into prominence in 2013 after being dubbed the stage name Mahlaba by his father, the late legendary pioneer of Imbube, Simon ‘Dr Mahlaba’ Banda. Charles was signed by a management company Matopos Music.


AWARDS & NOMINATIONS: 
Nominated twice at PPC Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) for Best Traditional Folk/Ezomdabuko in 2020 and for Best Jazz PPC ZIMA 2021 where he bagged his first award. Nominated at Bulawayo Arts Awards for Best Alternative Music.
