Exhibition launching of " Beauty in Brokenness " by Kaleeb Maponga

Exhibition Statement:
"Beauty in Brokenness" is essentially answering one question 'What beauty is there beneath our scars?' and seeks to answer it. Before a question is answered there are possibilities for multiple answers and this exhibition examines each one through the lens of a teenage boy learning to become a man. Therefore Coming of Age is a big theme and within it are themes such as trauma and healing, love and heartbreak and freedom and addiction. Within such themes this is almost like a series of diary entries that the viewer is invited into.

Artist Statement
"As an 18-year-old Zimbabwean artist, I create to explore and celebrate the essence of who I am and what makes up my identity in all its dualities—the strength and vulnerability, tradition and modernity, unity and individuality. My work is a mirror, reflecting the richness of my environment shared heritage while examining the contradictions that shape it".
