We are asking the Harnett County community for hands on volunteers to help with restoring this historic abandoned cemetery located between Angier and Lillington. Some of these graves date back to the mid 1800s. The family surnames that have been documented in this cemetery are Matthews, Bowden, Guy and Parrish. We are also looking for descendants of the family buried here that would like to help with restoring the cemetery and descendants that have any family records. If you are interested in participating in helping to restore this cemetery, you may do so by participating in the Cemetery Clean Up Day scheduled for Saturday April 11th, 2026 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. No need to commit to the full three hours, anytime you can give is appreciated! We will also be doing multiple clean up days as this cemetery will take several months to restore. Those wishing to help with clean up day we will meet onsite at the cemetery at 1605 Old Buies Creek Road, Angier, NC 27501. Stay connected to our page for weather cancelation updates. This cemetery is located on private farm land, please only visit the cemetery during scheduled clean up times or by appointment. Please bring the following work gloves. Please come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear, closed toed shoes are required. We also recommend bringing water, snacks and any other essentials you feel that you may need. For example, a chair for breaks, hat, sunscreen, etc. There are no bathrooms on site. We are extremely thankful to the volunteers who step up making this a successful event.
