About the host:
Dan Reitz is the founder and creative director of Buffalo Improv House.
For over a decade, Dan was one of the most in-demand improv comedy musical directors and clinicians in New York City, performing all over town and touring extensively with shows such as Your Love, Our Musical and the internationally beloved Baby Wants Candy. For much of the 2010s he was the house music director at the People’s Improv Theater, working most closely with their flagship house musical team Vern, but also music directing and collaborating with dozens of other groups and original musicals produced at that theater. He was on faculty & a frequent performer at the Magnet Theater where he was the primary backup pianist for the legendary Frank Spitznagel, and was a guest teacher and frequent performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. He has appeared in several episodes of Off Book: The Improvised Musical with Zach Reino and Jessica McKenna and was the music director and on-stage composer of the off-Broadway show Blank: The Musical. He also worked at the New York outpost of the Annoyance Theater and its spiritual offshoot the Brooklyn Comedy Collective, where he helped develop a number of shows that blurred the lines between scripted and improvised musical comedy, and for a time was the pianist for ComedySportz NYC.
He also worked on the standup scene as the musical sidekick to Rebecca Vigil, which led him to share the stage with everyone from Mateo Lane, Bowen Yang and Ziwe Fumadoh to Kevin Nealon and Jerry Springer.
He is a frequent collaborator with legendary SNL writer Robert Smigel, acting as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog’s onstage and off-stage musical director and co-writing the music with Robert and Adam Sandler for the 2024 Happy Madison / Netflix Animation movie Leo and its upcoming sequel.
As music director of Broadway at the W, he worked with cast members from dozens of Broadway shows including Hamilton, Wicket, Spamalot, and Motown the Musical. He has developed musical theater projects with collaborators such as Garett Press and Jenn Weinman (director of Dogman: the Musical,) Philip Markle (star of the Sparkle Hour and founder of Brooklyn Comedy Collective,) and Nik Walker (Hamilton, Spamalot, etc.) and he produced and musical directed the music for the musical episode of Crimetown: The Podcast.
