The St. John Paul II Schola Cantorum will be presenting "Tenebrae: A Lenten Service of Darkness" at St. Margaret Church in Buffalo on Friday, March 27 at 7:00 pm.

This service will include seven scripture readings relating the story of Jesus' passion and death. Each reading is followed by a prayer and sung responses by the Schola. The darkness gradually increases to symbolize the coming darkness of Jesus’ crucifixion and death. Music by Bruckner, Saint-Saëns, Viadana, Palestrina, Michael Haydn and others will be performed.

The St. John Paul II Schola Cantorum is an independent, “a cappella” choir dedicated to preserving, promoting and performing sacred choral works from the great treasury of music of the Catholic Church. Their repertoire ranges from Gregorian Chant to masterpieces of sacred polyphony from the Middle Ages to modern times.
