The next RBR exhibit, Cries in the Street: Itinerant Work Past and Present explores depictions of itinerant work, or work in motion, in the Rare Book  collection. 

Street criers are one well known example of itinerant workers--people selling their wares out in the streets of a city. Many street criers would have little jingles or songs that made their voices stand out. Many books were published documenting these street cries, and the Library's collection contains many such examples.

Voices from today will echo the past by recreating historic street cries at Street Crier Karaoke. For this program, musician Little Cake will work with participants to select their desired street cry, such as "hot crossed buns!" or "strawberries". Participants will be recorded in the Library's Launch Pad, crying it out. Little Cake will then weave the street cries into an aural composition of all of the voices to be played in the Rare Book Room for the duration of the next exhibit. 

There are two opportunities to participate in Street Crier Karaoke: 

Saturday, September 5th, 2:30 - 5 pm
Saturday, September 12th, 2:30 - 5 pm
