- **Event Description**: We will reprise most of the program we played in May for the Friends of Vienna. We’ll start with some of the five Songs Without Words by Sergei Prokofiev. Originally for voice and piano, these have often been performed by violinists, but Megan wanted to give these a try on the oboe, and they work great! We'll also play the 1978 Oboe Sonata by Canadian composer Violet Archer. Archer is not widely known in the US, but she wrote a tremendous amount of music in a variety of genres. She's a new favorite of ours! We'll finish with Francis Poulenc's 1962 Oboe Sonata, that composer's last completed work, dedicated to the memory of Prokofiev. It covers a broad emotional landscape over its three movements. We'll also play a piece of Megan’s, Invisible Series XIV: Marozia.
