Join us for a compelling solo exhibition by Ruby Merritt, featuring a new series of paintings, Soilscapes—a timely and immersive exploration of one of our planet’s most vital and vulnerable resources.
Dance Party for the Planet invites viewers to experience a series of abstract, pattern-rich works inspired by the unseen life within soil. Informed by ecological awareness, Merritt’s practice transforms scientific observation into an imaginative visual language, exploring the complexity and vitality of the often unseen living ecosystems on our irreplaceable planet.
"As a multidisciplinary eco-artist, my practice is driven by a profound fascination with the intricate connections between humans and the natural world. I aim to evoke a sense of wonder by reflecting the visual awe inspired by earth-formed objects and the visual networks of ecosystems. Approaching my creative process through a scientific lens, I explore the transformative potential of materials and embrace the inherent chemistry of art mediums. This experimental approach, where chance guides the visual outcomes, has allowed me to develop a unique language of patterns and textures that resemble those found in nature. By incorporating natural objects, living matter, recycled, and handmade materials, I create works that not only raise awareness of environmental issues like climate change and conservation, but welcome viewers to engage with nature as an art object in its own right. Incorporating scientific educational experiences and access to environmental activism through my art is pivotal to my intent for my audience. Creating interactive and visual exhibitions provides safe spaces for hosting workshops, innovative creating, and a lasting impression between art, science, and nature."
