Our Studio Ghibli Chalk Contest returns this August with a special guest: the King of the Monsters himself, GODZILLA!
This year, in addition to our Ghibli theme, we’re adding all-things Godzilla to the mix, in honor of our August 14th 4K screening of Hideaki Anno’s SHIN GODZILLA.
This means that in addition to Studio Ghibli, all entries related to Godzilla, or Ghibli AND Godzilla (Can we get a Mecha-Totoro?) will be considered.
And as you know, we’re pretty loose with themes. If you have some other special effects heavy, live action Japanese series (tokusatsu) dear to your heart (this one’s for you, Leopardon gang!), go crazy.

Bust out that chalk and join us for Buffalo’s Annual Studio Ghibli Chalk Contest, now celebrating its TWELFTH continuous year as one of the coolest expressions of Ghibli love on the planet.
CHALK CONTEST ENTRY IS FREE!
All skill levels are encouraged!
Some chalking supplies will be provided!
FREE water for chalkers!
General prize packages TBA (they will be cool!).

As in previous years, the festival spans TWO days: August 9 – August 10th. Except in extenuating circumstances, artists will be judged according to one day’s worth of work.
Chalking starts at 9:00 AM Saturday and Sunday. (But you can start any time after.)
Final judging starts at 9 PM Sunday.
(Take a break and catch one of our two Ghibli matinees that weekend!)
