Once systems move beyond 4+ years, canopy decisions become critical. There’s a huge amount of information online, much of it conflicting, and very few opportunities to learn these skills hands-on in an established system. This day focuses on practical wisdom, safety, and clear decision-making in a living food forest. What we’ll be doing Hands-on thinning and pruning of eucalyptus, acacia, and other emergent species Understanding why and when to remove or retain canopy trees Reading system responses and avoiding long-term setbacks Ladder use and basic harness techniques Introductory chainsaw handling in a food forest context Working safely and confidently with large trees This is a practical immersion. You’ll leave with embodied experience and the confidence to manage big trees, not just theory.
