Kautzky Sára (sz. 1998) 2022-ben szerzett MA festőművész diplomát a Magyar Képzőművészeti Egyetemen. 2022 óta társszervezője, 2025 óta pedig kurátora a Magyarkút Art Residency alulról szerveződő, nemzetközi, művészeti rezidenciaprogramjának. 2025 óta a Fiatal Képzőművészek Stúdiója Egyesület tagja. Alkotói praxisa a hulladékpapírok újrahasznosításán alapuló installatív munkákra épül. Vizuális művészeti tevékenysége mellett az írás munkásságának meghatározó pillére: a szövegek és a vizuális alkotások egymással párhuzamosan, kölcsönös reflexióban formálódnak, és egymást értelmezve alkotnak egységet.

“Serendipity című projektem egy 2024 óta épülő installációsorozat, melynek koncepcionális keretét         az emberi kíváncsiság univerzális és időtlen természete képzi, különös hangsúlyt helyezve                     a felfedezés, a megértés és a kapcsolódás iránti vágy mint alapvető emberi tapasztalat személyes vizsgálatára.

A serendipity kifejezést Horace Walpole angol író alkotta meg 1754-ben, Amir Khusrau 14. században élt perzsa költő meséje, A Serendip három hercege történetéből inspirálódva. A történet szerint Serendip (Sri Lanka régi perzsa és arab elnevezése) királyának három fia vándorútjuk során éles megfigyelőképességükre és deduktív gondolkodásukra támaszkodva, valamint a véletlennek köszönhetően jelentős felfedezéseket tettek, és addig megfejthetetlennek hitt rejtélyeket oldottak meg, olyan dolgokra bukkanva, amelyeket nem is kerestek.

A serendipity fogalma olyan „véletlen belebotlás” vagy felismerés élményeként definiálható, amely nem pusztán a „vakszerencse műve”, ugyanis megköveteli a szereplő aktív, nyitott és felfedező jelenlétét.
A kifejezéssel találkozva egy olyan, addig számomra ismeretlen – a magyar nyelvben nem meghonosodott és közvetlen fordítással nem rendelkező – fogalomra találtam rá, amely azóta nemcsak alkotói koncepcióm középpontjává vált, hanem definícióként és nézőpontként is használok     a körülöttem lévő világ jelenségeihez való viszonyom megfogalmazásához.

A Serendipity projekt kiállításának keretében a percepció koherenciájának megkérdőjelezésén keresztül a személyes tapasztalás és megélés jelentőségét kívánom diskurzusba hozni. Egyfajta felkérés a szerendipity élményének átélésére egy olyan társadalmi közegben, ahol a felfedezés élménye egyre szélsőségesebben kapitalizálódni látszik. A rábukkanás, a ráeszmélés és a spontaneitás élménye – a megtervezettség, a kiszámíthatóság és az előrejelezhetőség rendezőelvei szerint működő rendszerek által – egy kontrollált, előre meghatározott mértékben és időtartamban kínált, megvásárolható termékké válik, ami által elveszti lényegét.”

"Welcome to serendipity, to Kautzky Sára's serendipity, which is now yours too. Now that you have stumbled upon it unexpectedly, we can share it."

Kautzky Sára (b. 1998) received her MA degree in Fine Art from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2022. Since 2022, she has been a co-organiser, and since 2025, a curator of Magyarkút Art Residency, an independent, internationally oriented artist residency programme organised from the grassroots. Since 2025, she has been a member of the Studio of Young Artists Association (FKSE).

Her artistic practice is based on installation works that incorporate recycled waste paper. Alongside her visual art practice, writing constitutes a defining pillar of her work: texts and visual artworks develop in parallel, in mutual reflection, interpreting one another and forming a unified whole.

Serendipity is an installation series that has been developing since 2024 and will be presented for the first time at Bázis. Budapest. The conceptual framework of the installation ensemble is grounded in the universal and timeless nature of human curiosity, with particular emphasis on the personal examination of the desire for discovery, understanding, and connection as fundamental human experiences.

The term serendipity was coined in 1754 by the English writer Horace Walpole, inspired by the story The Three Princes of Serendip, a tale by the 14th-century Persian poet Amir Khusrau. According to the story, the three sons of the King of Serendip (an old Persian and Arabic name for Sri Lanka), during their journey, solve mysteries previously thought to be impossible to decipher through significant discoveries they were not actively seeking, relying on their keen powers of observation and deductive reasoning. The concept of serendipity can be defined as an experience of "stumbling upon" something by chance, or a moment of unexpected discovery, which is not merely the result of "blind luck," as it requires an active, open, and exploratory presence on the part of the individual.

Upon encountering the term, the artist discovered a concept previously unknown to her—one that has no established presence or direct equivalent in the Hungarian language. Since then, it has become not only central to her artistic concept, but also serves as a definition and a perspective through which she articulates her relationship to the phenomena of the world around her.
Through questioning the coherence of perception, the Serendipity project seeks to bring the significance of personal experience and lived experience into discourse. 

The exhibition is an invitation to experience serendipity within a social context in which the experience of discovery appears to be undergoing increasingly extreme forms of commodification. The experience of stumbling upon something, of realisation and spontaneity-through systems governed by the organising principles of planning, predictability, and foreknowledge— becomes a purchasable product, offered in a controlled, predetermined measure and duration, thereby losing its essence.
