A Kat and the Devil műfajokon túli kvintettjét improvizációban is megmerítkezett klasszikus és jazz-zenészek alkotják, akik beszélt és énekelt szövegeken keresztül fedezik fel a legkülönfélébb témákat. A színház felé hajló előadásaikra jellemző a komikum, a dallamosság és az idiómák egyesítése, emellett lépten-nyomon meglepetéseket tartogatnak a közönség és maguk az előadók számára egyaránt.
Az együttes korábbi produkciói kiterjedtek a boszorkányok, Basó, Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce, a pszichedelikus szerek, a halottakkal való kommunikáció, az építészet, a szatíra és a bűncselekmények világára. Nevüket első projektjük után választották, amely Joyce The Cat and the Devil című novellájára épült. Ezúttal a rossz tanácsok felé fordítják figyelmüket, az internetes life hackek, a gyors megoldások és a félrevezető útmutatók tömkelegére támaszkodva. Szöveget és zenei anyagot merítenek majd Krasznahorkai László, Jenny Offill, Kiss Noémi, Rumaan Alam, László Noémi, Dave Eggers és végül, de nem utolsósorban Karlheinz Stockhausen munkásságából, aki a klasszikus zenében a művészi kockázatvállalás és a megkérdőjelezhető filozófiák szimbolikus alakjává vált. Olyan koncertre számíthatunk, ahol a rossz tanácsok még sohasem hangzottak ilyen jól.

Kat and the Devil is a genre-bending quintet of improvising classical and jazz musicians using spoken and sung texts to explore wide-ranging themes. Their performances are comedic, melodic, pan-idiomatic, theatrical, and full of surprise (for the audience and also for the performers themselves).
Previous evenings have explored Witches, Basho, Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce, Hallucinogens, Communing with the Dead, Architecture, Satire, and Crime. The group takes its name from their first project: a concert based on James Joyce’s short story The Cat and the Devil.
Each concert dives into a new theme. This evening, they turn their attention to bad advice – drawing from the world of internet life hacks, quick fixes, and misguided guidance. Text and musical material may be drawn from László Krasznahorkai, Jenny Offill, Noémi Kiss, Rumaan Alam, Noémi László, Dave Eggers, and Karlheinz Stockhausen – the classical music emblem of artistic risk and questionable philosophies. Join the ensemble for a night where bad advice never sounded so good.
