Apja, Djely Bouya Diarra legendás énekes és táncos volt, anyja pedig a Les Amazones d’Afrique első lemezéről is ismert, szintén legendás Kandia Kouyaté. Djely Tapa vokalistából 2017-től lett szólóelőadó, tradicionális gyökerű, de új utakat is kipróbáló debütlemeze (Barokan) 2019-ben jelent meg, a folytatás (Dankoroba – amellyel most turnézik) pedig 2024-ben érkezett. A Vieux Farka Touré vendégszereplésével készült, sokszínűbb album elektronikus alapokon lüktet, dubos elemek is átjárják, mégis megőrizte nyugat-afrikai karakterét.

Soutoungoumba Diarra, aka Djely Tapa, originally moved from Mali to Canada to study aeronautics. It soon became clear to her, however, that she could not escape the family tradition of making music she had picked up during childhood. Her father, Djely Bouya Diarra, was a legendary singer and dancer, while her mother, best known for her first album Les Amazones d’Afrique, is the equally legendary Kandia Kouyaté. The vocalist Djely Tapa became a solo performer in 2017, and her debut album Barokan, which is rooted in tradition, yet explores new paths as well, was released in 2019. Its follow-up (Dankoroba – which she is now touring) landed in 2024. Guest starring Vieux Farka Touré, the album is more colourful and pulses along to electronic beats and dub elements without ever losing its West African character.
