Heri Dono will talk about his artistic practice during a discussion with art historian professor Kitty Zijlmans from The Netherlands, an expert on global art, whose lecture will start the event. Rudi Struik, established visual artist (the Netherlands) will guide participants through a workshop, exploring the concept of the local and global, engaging with the concept of home.
◼️ Programme ◼️
➡️ 14:30: Global art and its cultural multiplicity
Professor Kitty Zijlmans illustrated talk on the concept of global art. Just what do we call global art and where does it fit in the artworld? Is it the same as the international art scene defined by trend-setting institutions, influential galleries and dealers, moneyed art fairs and biennales sprouting all over the world? Do these systems intersect, and where? Professor Kitty Zijlmans explores the complexity of the global art term and presents a critical perspective on the international art scene defined by collector’s interest and influential institutions by means of topical case-studies.
➡️ 15:30–16:15: Kitty Zijlmans’ discussion with resident artist Heri Dono, moderator: Délia Vékony Phd, director of HAB
➡️ 16:30–18:00: Rudi Struik’s workshop ‘Sense of Place: Home’
with audience participation on the concept of home, roots and belonging. In his workshop, Rudi Struik, practicing visual artist from The Netherlands, invites participants to think about and visually express their ideas of home and belonging. Starting with viewing a 10 min. video artwork, participants in small groups discuss with each other and together formulate their ideas and concepts on what for them makes ‘home’. In the last 30 min. the groups present their ideas on how they would visualize their concept of ‘home’ and discuss their experience.
