Reimagining European Cultural Diplomacy

We are pleased to announce the NARDIV Annual Conference 2025, taking place from 27 to 29 November at the University of Bucharest and Goethe-Institut Bucharest. The conference will bring together scholars and practitioners to examine the evolving dynamics of European cultural diplomacy, with particular attention to historical legacies, contemporary challenges, and the future of East–West relations.

The scientific programme will unfold over three days and is structured to trace a conceptual progression: beginning with the historical foundations of East–West cultural diplomacy, moving towards contemporary transformations and new actors, and concluding with future-oriented discussions and policy perspectives. Each day highlights a distinct thematic cluster, allowing participants to follow the evolution of debates across sessions.

A highlight of the conference will be the Evening Debate, “East–West Perceptions – How to Overcome Asymmetry?” This discussion will address how to bridge enduring divisions between Eastern and Western Europe by fostering balanced relationships, strengthening European cohesion, and promoting mutual understanding through more inclusive dialogue and better information exchange. Researchers from the NARDIV project will share insights from their respective work packages, outlining key findings and perspectives for the future of cultural diplomacy. Online participation will be possible for this event.

Participants will also have the opportunity to experience the interactive exhibition ”Reclaiming Post-industrial Futures”, curated by Ilinca Păun Constantinescu and supported by EUNIC Romania.
