☁️ „În 2004, James Benning a realizat pe 16mm un film sonor de o mare simplitate: zece cadre statice cu cerul, fiecare de câte 10 minute. Câte filme pot fi descrise atât de succint? Concurează cu filmele timpurii ale lui Warhol, titlul spune totul.

Există filme care se prezintă ca fiind obiecte complexe, dar care sunt, de fapt, destul de simple. Și apoi există filme – mult mai rare – care par simple, dar ascund în ele o complexitate extraordinară. Aceasta este păcăleala, farmecul «Ten Skies» – un film mai dezordonat și mai bogat decât mi-a permis dragostea mea imediată pentru el.” (Erika Balsom)

🎬 This year at BIEFF, we’re presenting a special screening of James Benning’s ”Ten Skies”, followed by a masterclass with Erika Balsom.

☁️ “In 2004, James Benning made a 16mm sound film of great simplicity: ten 10-minute static takes of the sky. How many films can be described so succinctly? It rivals early Warhol. The title says it all.

There are films that present themselves as complex objects but which are in fact quite simple. And then there are films – rarer altogether – that appear simple but harbour tremendous complexity. Such is the deception, the allure, of «Ten Skies» – a film messier and more profuse than my immediate love for it had allowed.” (Erika Balsom)

🎤 The screening will be followed by a masterclass with Erika Balsom, reader in Film and Media Studies at King’s College London and author of five books, including ”Ten Skies”, dedicated to Benning’s film.
