Ask anyone: Ólöf Arnalds can mesmerise a room with nothing but a small guitar and her distinctive soprano voice. Across five albums over nearly twenty years, her delicately plucked guitar, violin, charango and koto support intimate songs that move between the mundane and the mythological, exploring love in all its forms. Though her music may recall Joanna Newsom, Nico or Vashti Bunyan, her sparse arrangements and tightly woven melodies are unmistakably her own.
A classically trained singer and violinist, Ólöf gained international attention after joining múm in 2003, before breaking through with her debut solo album Við og við (2007), produced by Kjartan Sveinsson of Sigur Rós. The record became an instant Icelandic classic, earning major awards and international acclaim. She went on to tour extensively worldwide and collaborate with artists including Björk and Ragnar Kjartansson, while receiving widespread praise from the international press.
With her new album Spíra (Sprout), produced by longtime collaborator Skúli Sverrisson, Ólöf returns to the spirit of her debut: songs in Icelandic, stripped-back arrangements, and intimate recordings made largely in single takes with close collaborators and friends.

Vraag het maar aan iedereen: Ólöf Arnalds kan een zaal betoveren met niets meer dan een kleine gitaar en haar kenmerkende sopraanstem. Op vijf albums, verspreid over de twee voorbije decennia, ondersteunen haar subtiel getokkelde gitaar, viool, charango en koto intieme liedjes die zich bewegen tussen het alledaagse en het mythologische, en die liefde in al haar vormen verkennen. Hoewel haar muziek doet denken aan Joanna Newsom, Nico of Vashti Bunyan, zijn haar spaarzame arrangementen en strak geweven melodieën onmiskenbaar van haarzelf.
Ólöf, een klassiek geschoolde zangeres en violiste, kreeg internationale aandacht nadat ze in 2003 bij múm kwam, waarna ze doorbrak met haar debuutalbum ‘Við og við’ (2007), geproduceerd door Kjartan Sveinsson van Sigur Rós.
