Alors qu’il s’apprête à dévoiler Paradise Now, son nouvel album attendu le 30 mai, Obongjayar annonce une tournée européenne qui fera escale à Bruxelles le 17 novembre, sur la scène de l'Orangerie du Botanique. L’artiste d’origine nigériane, installé à Londres depuis ses 18 ans, s’est imposé comme l’une des voix les plus inclassables et captivantes de ces dernières années.

Naviguant entre électro-pop lumineuse, soul hantée, afrobeat et spoken word, Obongjayar brouille les pistes et réinvente les contours de la musique contemporaine. Après un premier album salué par la critique (Some Nights I Dream of Doors, 2022), il revient avec un projet ambitieux, produit entre Londres et Los Angeles aux côtés de Kwes Darko (Pa Salieu), Yeti Beats (Doja Cat) et Beach Noise (Kendrick Lamar).

À travers Paradise Now, il explore les méandres de l’âme moderne : solitude, excès, désir de transcendance et besoin de sens. Un disque dense et percutant, porté par des titres comme “Not In Surrender” ou “Just My Luck”, où sa voix caméléon se fait tour à tour caresse ou incantation. Sur scène, Obongjayar transforme cette introspection en une expérience physique, intense et libératrice.

Obongjayar, geboren in Lagos en opgegroeid in Calabar, Nigeria, ontdekte al op jonge leeftijd de kracht van muziek als uitlaatklep. Eerst beïnvloed door Amerikaanse hiphop en r&b, ontdekte hij na zijn verhuizing naar het Verenigd Koninkrijk de rijke muzikale tradities van zijn geboorteland. Na een reeks Soundcloud-releases volgden succesvolle EP's, waaronder 'God's Own Children', waarmee hij een Ivor Novello Award won – een van de hoogste onderscheidingen voor songwriting in het VK.

In 2022 bracht Obongjayar zijn debuutalbum 'Some Nights I Dream of Doors' uit, een mix van elektronische muziek, soul, pop en afrobeat dat lovende recensies ontving van onder andere i-D, Crack Magazine, The Guardian en NPR. Hij werkte daarnaast door de jaren heen samen met artiesten als Jeshi, Little Simz, Pa Salieu en recentelijk Fred Again… voor het nummer ‘adore u’, dat wereldwijd meer dan 225 miljoen streams heeft behaald.

Op 30 mei verschijnt zijn langverwachte nieuwe album 'PARADISE NOW'. Het bevat de recente singles ‘Not In Surrender’, het dromerige ‘Just My Luck’ en de nieuwste track ‘Sweet Danger’. Met 15 tracks in totaal neemt Obongjayar je mee op een intieme reis door zijn persoonlijke verhalen, verrijkt met synths, strijkers en aanstekelijke percussie.
