Il y a des premières fois que l’on n’oublie pas. La première fois que l’on a entendu la voix captivante de Syd Matters en fait partie.

Dès End & Start Again en 2003, Jonathan Morali révèle un univers singulier, porté par un chant chaleureux et des mélodies hors du temps. Entre 2004 et 2011, Syd Matters publie quatre albums et signe des titres devenus cultes — Black & White Eyes, Obstacles, To All Of You ou I Might Float — qui marquent toute une génération, cumulant près de 200 millions d’écoutes et 100 000 ventes physiques.

Après des tournées en France, en Europe, aux États-Unis et en Amérique latine, culminant à l’Olympia en 2011, Jonathan Morali se consacre à la musique à l’image. Il compose notamment la bande-son des jeux vidéo à succès Life Is Strange et Life Is Strange 2, qui font découvrir Syd Matters à un nouveau public.

Le groupe fera son grand retour en septembre 2026 avec un cinquième album sur le label Créature (Fishbach, Chassol…), suivi d’une tournée en France et en Europe.

Al vanaf ‘End & Start Again’, zijn eerste single in 2003, onthulden de warme, bezielde zang van Jonathan Morali en zijn unieke melodieën, die uit een ander tijdperk leken te komen, een uitzonderlijke artiest. Het succes in Frankrijk en in het buitenland was onmiddellijk en is nooit afgenomen. Tussen 2004 en 2011 volgden vier albums met een reeks onvergetelijke nummers: ‘Black & White Eyes’, ‘Obstacles’, ‘To All of You’ en ‘I Might Float’, die een hele generatie hebben getekend en samen bijna 200 miljoen streams en 100.000 fysieke verkopen hebben behaald.

Syd Matters putte zowel uit de songwriting van de sixties, de grootsheid en vrijheid van de seventies als de hedendaagse synthesizerklanken en wist zo een uniek muzikaal universum te ontwikkelen, waarmee hij in de loop der jaren een trouw en steeds groter wordend publiek aan zich wist te binden. Na 2011 hield hij zich wat meer op de achtergrond, zonder minder productief te zijn, tot hij tussen 2015 en 2019 opnieuw in de kijker kwam dankzij zijn soundtracks voor de games Life is Strange en Life is Strange 2. Na een te lange afwezigheid zal Syd Matters zijn grote comeback maken met zijn vijfde album, dat in september 2026 verschijnt.
