Coppieters Academy 2018: Gender equality in a changing Europe

- To understand political, economic and social transformations and ruptures around Europe from a feminist perspective;
- To improve your campaigning and advocacy skills on the rights of girls, women and LGBTQI persons and their community;
- To explore the concept of intersectionality by thinking critically about overlapping identities (gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, race, migrant/citizenship, age, ability etc.), and to examine how to apply intersectionality in your daily life and activism;
- To reflect on building solidarity across social movements, borders, and generations;
- To provide you with knowledge and understanding of European institutions and policy-making on issues of gender;
- To experience the city of Brussels from a feminist perspective.

- Individuals with an interest in gender equality, women’s rights and LGBTQI rights
- Young students, professionals and activists between 18 and 30 years of age
- Individuals living in the European Union or EU Candidate countries
- Individuals with a good level of English
- We particularly encourage applications from women from diverse backgrounds (in terms of minority nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, origin, religion, etc.).

- What is intersectionality? Critical race theory and feminist theory/practice
- Brux-elles: A feminist tour of Brussels

Day 2 – 11th July
- How to campaign for women’s and girl’s rights at EU institutions?
- How can women progress through education?
- Fundamentalisms and neoliberalism in Europe: What are the impacts on women and minorities?
- Women, borders and human rights
- Indigenous women’s rights – a story of under-reported feminist struggles

Day 3 – 12th July
- Tour of the European Parliament
- Meeting of Members of European Parliament
- Documentary screening on reproductive justice at the European Parliament
- LGBTQI rights in Europe
- How can we build solidarity across social movements?
- Good-bye drinks at Place Luxembourg
A more detailed program with names of speakers and participating organisations will be released soon.

The price for Coppieters Academy 2017 is: (1) €300 for participants who live outside of Brussels or (2) €200 for Brussels-based participants.
This fee includes:
- accommodation for 4 nights*
- reimbursement of up to €200 in travel expenses
- breakfast, lunch, and coffee breaks
- courses and materials
- certificate of participation
- goody bag with gifts
* Only for out of town participants who pay fee (1).
