Newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane’s final word on his deathbed is ‘Rosebud’. Reporter Jerry Thompson is tasked with finding out the meaning behind this word. Thompson interviews friends and colleagues of Foster Kane in an attempt to solve the mystery. The life of the millionaire is revealed on the screen with the help of flashbacks: the rise and fall of a powerful, but unhappy man. “All he really wanted out of life was love. That’s Charlie’s story – how he lost it.”

Theatre director and actor Orson Welles was given total control of his directorial debut in 1941 by studio RKO. With innovative cinematographer Gregg Toland, help of screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, a group of New York theatre actors and the final say over the editing, Welles created a masterpiece.
