Ayant rassemblé au fil des ans une communauté de fans en tant que « groupe culte », grâce à des performances live qualifiées de « émeutes nihilistes », les sons surréalistes imprégnés de drogue du groupe brossent un tableau bruyant et doux-amer de la réalité de la vie dans une grande ville. C'est dans les quartiers les plus sordides du sud de Londres que Children of the Pope a été formé en 2019 par Juno Valentine et Guilherme Fells. Après une brève période d'ajustements au sein du groupe, celui-ci a ressuscité sous la forme d'une réunion d'anciens amis, avec le recrutement de deux vétérans de la scène pour rejoindre les membres originaux Juno et Fells : Matilda Harding, l'apprentie perdue de Poison Ivy, au clavier, Jasper Eade à la basse et Andrew Saunders à la guitare. Using bombastic rhythmic constructs, savvy arrangements and fervid melodies, the Toronto outfit put forth solemn tracks about perseverance and self-determination that are cleverly subverted through sarcastic commentary, courtesy of their sense of humor. Gloin self-released their introductory EP Soft Monster on April 18th, 2019.
