Australia’s most loved short film festival returns to the Northern Rivers for a huge multi-day celebration of cinema, creativity and community.
With 40+ incredible short films handpicked from a record 3,700+ international entries, Flickerfest brings together the very best in Oscar & BAFTA-qualifying shorts, award winners and exciting new voices from Australia and around the world, alongside our local Northern Rivers filmmakers in the Byron all Shorts competition.
🍾🌍 Opening Night – Thursday 26 Feb
Kick things off with our Opening Night Party from 7pm, with complimentary drinks and snacks and toast to 29 years of Flickerfest in the Northern Rivers, followed by the Best of International Shorts screening at 8pm
🌟 Best of Australian Shorts – Friday 27 Feb
A powerful showcase celebrating our aussie festival favourites and award winners with bold storytelling and outstanding local talent, both in front of and behind the camera.
🎓 Free Filmmaker Workshop – Saturday 28 Feb (2pm)
Go behind the scenes with award-winning Flickerfest alumni Wayne Blair (The Sapphires, Redfern Now, Top End Wedding) as he share insights on his journey from short films to features in conversation with festival director Bronwyn Kidd.
🌊 Byron All Shorts – Saturday 28 Feb (4pm)
A much-loved highlight, shining a spotlight on 11 Northern Rivers filmmakers and stories screening in competition, meet the filmmakers at this session and see who takes home this years awards.
😂 Short Laughs Comedy – Saturday 28 Feb (8pm)
Big laughs, sharp wit and off-kilter humour from Australia and around the globe to close the festival on a high.
