Join lifelong Comanche resident Tommy Patterson for an unforgettable evening of Texas history, hands-on heritage, and stories straight from the peanut fields.  

From arrowhead hunts as a kid to knapping flint at “knap-ins,” Tommy has spent decades mastering and preserving Central Texas Native traditions. He has a high respect for and fascination with Native Americans and their history.

Tommy has mastered the skills to tan deer hides, make bows and arrows, and replicate many items used by historic and prehistoric Native Americans.

A veteran of volunteering at archaeological digs, and having served on the Comanche County Historical Commission and the Comanche County Museum, he’s ready to pack 13,000 years of local Native culture into one captivating talk—followed by live demos and a show-and-tell you won’t want to miss.

13,000 Years in 30 Minutes – A whirlwind tour of Native American culture in central Texas.

Brain-Tanning 101 – Things to know before you start brain tanning a deer hide.

Trees and Bows – Central Texas trees that make a good traditional bow.

Show & Tell – Discussion of Native American items Tommy has made.

Literary lounge meets living history — at Grassroots. Food, cocktails, mocktails, and our made-from-scratch weekly dessert.
