# Event Details - **Event Name**: Wenlock Edge ( full length ) - Shropshire Hills - 18 miles - **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 27 Jun, 2026 at 08:00 am – Sat, 27 Jun, 2026 at 05:00 pm - **Event Description**: The full Wenlock Edge traverse is one of the best long ridge walks in England — a proper “journey walk” rather than a simple circular. Doing the whole thing in one go is very achievable if you’re reasonably fit and used to 15–20 mile days. This will be a linear walk. We will meet at the St Mary's lane car park in the historic market town of Much Wenlock at 08.00. Then we will jump onto the transport that will take us to Craven Arms and the start of the walk. Tickets for this walk cost £25.00. £15 for the walk and £10 for transport. This payment is non-refundable. It will only be refunded in the event of a non-weather related cancellation. *Tickets/spaces for this walk/event are pre booked and pre paid, please don't just turn up on the day with cash* The walk from Craven Arms to Much Wenlock follows the length of Wenlock Edge, one of England’s finest limestone escarpments. Stretching for around 18 miles across South Shropshire, the ridge was formed over 400 million years ago as a coral reef beneath a tropical sea, and today creates a dramatic wooded skyline above the surrounding countryside. Much of the route passes through ancient woodland, limestone grassland and old quarry landscapes, with constant views opening east across the Severn plain and west toward the Shropshire Hills. The Edge is also one of the longest continuous woodland corridors in England and is nationally important for its wildflowers, butterflies and rich geology. Highlights include Wilderhope Manor, the dramatic viewpoints around Major's Leap, and sections where the escarpment drops steeply away through ancient coppiced woodland. Major’s Leap is linked to the Civil War legend of Major Smallman, who is said to have ridden his horse off the Edge while escaping Cromwell’s troops. Along the route you’ll pass old limestone quarries, holloways worn down by centuries of use, rare wildflower meadows and some of the most atmospheric woodland in the Welsh Borderlands. We will looking at about 2,000ft of elevation for the day. Please bring plenty of water and food to sustain you, we won't be passing any shops.
