- **Event Name**: Written Women: Brigid of Kildare
- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 05 Feb, 2026 at 07:00 pm – Thu, 05 Feb, 2026 at 09:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Written Women is a monthly writers salon at Cordelia, inviting you to respond to poems, stories and myths written by and about women.About this EventEach month, we'll read and discuss a different text to inspire our own free-write session, drawing from women's stories of power, madness, sensuality, tragedy, queerness, and insubordination. Time will be set aside at the end of each meetup for folks to share excerpts of what they've written. This February, we’ll delve into a selection of works surrounding the stories of Brigid, who appears as an early medieval abbess, a saint, and a goddess across Celtic and Christian history and myth. We'll interpret her story and teachings across both pagan and monotheistic traditions, touching on their likenesses and differences, and expanding our own understanding of the bridge between the material and the symbolic. What happens when women are immortalized in myth? What influences are at play? And how can our awareness of these processes encourage women to assert agency over their own stories?Written Women is led by poet, movement artist and facilitator Katya Borkov. You can learn more about her work at www.everythingspills.studio, or on instagram @everything.spillsThis event is funded in part by Poets & Writers with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.AgendaIntroduction to this month's materialCollective readingsGuided discussionGenerative writing promptsConcluding group share
