Readings will begin promptly at 7:45PM.Thank you to our sponsors: The Pathfinder and Four and Twenty Blackbirds.Alexis Almeida, Imagined as a series of experiments in autobiography, Caetano invokes the name of the author’s grandfather to write toward the mystery of family, originals, and their ruptures, breaks, and re-imaginings. Written from distinct positions in time, the poems in this collection think about the (im)possibility of faithful reproduction, the space between an original and its translation, and the moving target of a portrait as it moves through different narrative forms.Laura Cesarco Eglin, translator of Miriam Reyes' In this translation from the Galician, translator Laura Cescaro Eglin reassembles Miriam Reyes' poetic encounters with the insufficiency of language, as a means to contain experience, meaning, and the self. Sardine is poet Miriam Reyes' first full-length publication in Galician, her maternal grandfather's native tongue. Having migrated to Venezuela at the age of eight, Reyes reaches into the ruptures in space and time forced open by migration and offers memory as a salve for our discordant selves.Sam Max, Sam Max's award-winning playscript Double Serpent creates a thriller of childhood scarring and adulthood dissociation, Fake Dads and real daddies, surgery and blood play. In a penthouse in Manhattan, protagonist Connor plays dead for his wealthy older boyfriend Felix. Elsewhere, in a dark, wet basement in 1999, he plays Double Serpent with his invisible friend while he waits for Fake Dad to be done with his business upstairs.Stine An, translator of Yoo Heekyung's Structured as a series of stories, Winter Night Rabbit Worries presents narrative and linguistic architectures that dissolve the opposition between those materials that construct the this and the that side of life—past and future, truth and falsehood, memory and fantasy. Stine An's translation of Yoo Heekyung's fifth poetry collection brings the Korean poet's dizzying and tender voice in which the boundaries between the self and other unravel.Timothy Ashley Leo, The Dog’s Letter traverses the sounds and silences of a family tending to a suffering child, Maya. In pursuit of an affective origin of the word canicular, the poems trace the dimensions of a yellow zone between hospital walls and the exhaustion of the first person. With Maya as guide, the sequence gathers what it can of her words–before she refuses to speak.UDP publishes books in two seasons: spring and fall. Through the efforts of a volunteer editorial collective, UDP was transformed from a 1990s zine into a mission-driven small press that has published more than 300 titles to date, and produced countless prints and ephemera.UDP favors emerging, international, and “forgotten” writers, and its books, chapbooks, artist’s books, broadsides, and periodicals often contain handmade elements, calling attention to the labor and history of bookmaking.UDP is committed to keeping its publications in circulation with our online archive of out-of-print chapbooks and our digital proofs program. In all of its activities, UDP endeavors to create an experience of art free of expectation, coercion, and utility."
