A projected map extends the work across the city: the viewer points at a location, and four images of the closest crashes emerge. The project transforms raw data into narrative, exposing the emotionally brutal truth concealed within the dry traffic statistics of NYC streets. This art exhibit is part of Michael James Freedman’s ongoing art and advocacy work as CrashCount.nyc (https://crashcount.nyc/). He is the lead technologist and artist behind an augmented reality app called Crashscape (https://crashcount.nyc/crashscape/), which will also be available for demonstration during the Arts Gowanus Open Studios weekend. The artist Michael James Freedman will be in the gallery to discuss the work and answer questions. The Distance From Here will be open and on view Saturday 10/17 (12 -5pm) and Sunday 10/18 (12 - 4pm) in the Littlefield Gallery. The exhibition will remain on view until mid-December 2026.Arts Gowanus Directory listing: https://gowanusarts.org/directory/michael-james-freedman/Artist: @michaeljamesfreedman, @crashcountnycCurator: @whynotartnyc https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events4/banners/664a1d50-be8f-11f1-8a18-b3e52d4bf2d6-rimg-w740-h740-dc081828-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events9/banners/665d0910-be8f-11f1-8a18-b3e52d4bf2d6-rimg-w740-h740-dc284858-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events4/banners/67460980-be8f-11f1-8a18-b3e52d4bf2d6-rimg-w740-h740-dc080808-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events4/banners/67bc7200-be8f-11f1-8a18-b3e52d4bf2d6-rimg-w740-h740-dc080808-gmir.jpg - **Event URL**: https://allevents.in/brooklyn/the-distance-from-here-michael-james-freedman-arts-gowanus-open-studios/100002000206600787 - **Event Categories**: art, exhibitions - **Slot details of has slots**: - **Interested Audience**: - total_interested_count: 0 - **Event Highlights**: - Age Limit: All Ages - Duration: 3 hours - Location: littlefield - Languages: English ## Ticket Details - **Ticket Price Range**: min: 0, max: 0, currency: USD ## Event venue details - **city**: Brooklyn - **state**: NY - **country**: United States - **location**: littlefield - **lat**: 40.6785007 - **long**: -73.9833014 - **full address**: littlefield, 635 Sackett Street, Brooklyn, United States ## Event gallery - **Alt text**: The Distance from Here - Michael James Freedman - Arts Gowanus Open Studios - **Image URL**: https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events5/banners/e9120d2d36782187cdaf0fa6a88b85a35e1460307bfb9d12d0812bd3984f9d82-rimg-w1200-h621-dce8e8e8-gmir.jpg?v=1789554675 ## FAQs - **Q**: When and where is The Distance from Here - Michael James Freedman - Arts Gowanus Open Studios being held? - **A:** The Distance from Here - Michael James Freedman - Arts Gowanus Open Studios takes place on Sun, 18 Oct, 2026 at 12:00 pm to Sun, 18 Oct, 2026 at 03:00 pm at littlefield, 635 Sackett Street, Brooklyn, United States. - **Q**: Who is organizing The Distance from Here - Michael James Freedman - Arts Gowanus Open Studios? - **A:** The Distance from Here - Michael James Freedman - Arts Gowanus Open Studios is organized by Littlefield. - **Q**: Who is this event for?
