The Behavioral Science of Fear // NYC Salon [88]

Fear often limits us - It keeps us in that unfulfilling career, in the unsatisfying relationship, or moving forward with what we really want in life.So then, how do we overcome our fears? In this edition of NYC Salon, Helen will share the psychology behind fear and teach specific behavioral science techniques to tackle common fears. We’ll explore the stories behind our own conditioned fears, and how to address the cognitive dissonance between fear and desire. Through a series of facilitated exercises, we’ll learn how we can use fears to navigate our lives, and how overcoming them might be the most powerful thing we’ll ever do.Helen Tsim is an executive coach, entrepreneur, and community builder. She has helped Fortune 500 executives evaluate management risks, taught comfort-zone expansion & rejection courses at Stanford, led communication workshops at Facebook, and coached TedX speakers through their fear of public speaking. Helen previously co-founded Styleta, led strategy & marketing at Lucid Motors, and ran San Francisco Salon. Helen specialized in leadership & social psychology at Harvard University.// About NYC SalonNYC Salon is a speaker series that aims to be "TED with friends". Over three years ago we started inviting people with novel insights or interesting projects in art, economics, science, technology, and comedy to give talks about their work and process, and have been meeting every other Tuesday since then. Engaging deeply with the material and getting to know other attendees is a core principle of NYC Salon, so after each talk, we break up into small groups and workshop topics related to the talk. Our speakers have gone on to give talks at TED, the UN, and at the World Bank. Our goal is to create opportunities for spontaneity, collaboration, and life long learning.// How to invite your friendsShare this eventbrite linkOR 1) Add them to the NYC Salon facebook group at bit.ly/nycsalon (any member can add a new one)2) Invite them on the event page
