TABE 11/12 & Reading Fluency- BPL Pacific Branch

TABE 11/12 & Reading Fluency- BPL Pacific Branch

TABE 11/12 & Reading Fluency (3 Hours)

Currently, in TABE 9/10 most passages are one paragraph or less in length. In TABE 11/12, passages can span one, two or three pages in length. To demonstrate success, students will need to read rapidly and accurately, with appropriate phrasing and expression while they strive to gain comprehension. For students that read frequently, and read a variety of genres, adjusting to the demands of text length and content will only require minor tweaks to their approach of reading text. However, for ABE students at NRS levels 1-3 that already struggle with vocabulary, prosody and pacing, this shift presents a major challenge. In this session we will address strategies that can be employed to assist students in meeting the reading demands of TABE 11/12.
