📚 Lecture: “Extrasolar Worlds: 30 Years of Discoveries”
🎤 Speaker: Astrophysicist, Dr. Niall Whiteford
In the fall of 1995, we made a groundbreaking discovery: the first planet beyond our solar system. Now, three decades later, we've cataloged over 6,000 exoplanets in our galactic neighborhood. In this fascinating talk, Dr. Niall Whiteford will take us on a journey through the weird and wonderful worlds we've found, exploring how they were discovered and what the future may hold.
Dr. Niall Whiteford is an astrophysicist who completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh before joining the astronomy department at the American Museum of Natural History. His research focuses on the James Webb Space Telescope's observations of exoplanets, including their chemistry, clouds, and weather patterns. He is also passionate about the search for life beyond our solar system and dedicated to engaging the public in astronomy.
