And it's only fitting that we anchor our discussion of hybridization in a novel about the Haitian Revolution that was written by a man who was born in Switzerland, raised in Cuba, moved to France as an adult, and finally returned to live out the rest of his life in Cuba—The Kingdom of This World by Alejo Carpentier.
