JLee MacKenzie Hidden Blueprints: The Story of Mikey andTHE DRAGON FIGHTERS

Join the Center for Art and Advocacy for a special screening of JLee Mackenzie’s film Hidden Blueprints: The Story of Mikey and his short film THE DRAGON FIGHTER, which is featured in our current exhibition Collective Gestures: Building Community through Practice

Hidden Blueprints: The Story of Mikey is a hybrid short film that details the history and creation of a collection of wood-scrollwork that was designed and hidden in Pr*son. It tells the stories prisoners created for themselves in the aftermath of a corporate Pr*son riot.

THE DRAGON FIGHTERS is an animated short film that narrates the work of incarcerated firefighters and the manifold precarities they encounter. It does so through the lens of a young girl who makes sense of and interprets her father's labor as dragon fighting.Jeremy Lee MacKenzie is a screenwriter, film director and wood-scroll artist who earned his Master of Fine Arts Degree at USC School of Cinematic Arts on a George Lucas Scholarship. He has a BFA in Creative Media from Champlain College. His films have screened at film festivals internationally, including The American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at Cannes Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival. His 2021 film There’s a Pr*son on Fire in the Forest, an animated film about a riot in a for-profit Pr*son, won the jury award for American short films at Champs-Élysées Film Festival in Paris, France.
