Her fiction has appeared in The Sonora Review, The Brazenhead Review, The Atticus Review and Meridian. Her written journalism has been published in The New York Times, New York Magazine, and Vox, among others. Her audio journalism has appeared on the podcast Serial, where she was an assistant producer on a recent season about the Guantanamo Bay detention center, and on Question Everything, where she was an associate producer. She holds a BA in English Literature from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Brooklyn College. She teaches creative writing and journalism at Brooklyn College, and was the fiction editor and design editor at the Brooklyn Review. She has been a writer in residence at Writing x Writers in the French Alps, and in Nimmo Bay, Canada. More of her work can be read at emmagrillo.com.Vivian Hu is a writer and cellist. Her writing has appeared in The Paris Review, The Drift, A Public Space, and elsewhere. Most recently, her work has been supported by fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Stadler Center for Poetry & Literary Arts, and Yaddo.Svetlana Satchkova is a New York–based journalist, fiction writer, and translator. She grew up in Moscow, where she worked as a reporter and magazine editor. In 2016, Svetlana moved to the United States after life under Putin’s regime became unsustainable for her as a writer and a human being. She now covers culture and politics, with bylines in The Independent, Newsweek, Los Angeles Review of Books, and other outlets. Having published three novels in her native Russian, her first novel in English, The Undead: A Novel of Modern Russia, will be published by Melville House in January 2026. She holds an MFA in Fiction from Brooklyn College, where she was a Truman Capote Fellow, and is currently a research fellow at the Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia at NYU.Markita Naomi Schulman is a writer and educator based in Brooklyn, New York. She holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from NYU. Her research and writing interests include bipolar illness, anti-carceral feminism, labor organizing, adolescent risk-taking, and Fiona Apple. Her writing has appeared in Cagibi, 34th Parallel Magazine, and the Washington Square Review.Ayten Tartici is a writer, literary critic and translator. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, The Atlantic, The Yale Review and Slate, among other publications. Her honors include fellowships from the James Merrill House and The Center for Fiction, where she is currently a Susan Kamil Emerging Writer Fellow. She earned her B.A. from Harvard and holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Yale, where she was awarded the Gordon Barber Memorial Prize for poetry and the John Addison Porter Prize for best scholarship of general human interest. She previously served as an American Council of Learned Societies Emerging Voices Postdoctoral Fellow at Georgetown. She is an editorial consultant for 212 Magazine, where she hosts an interview series with contemporary poets. She lives in Queens and teaches at Columbia University.Hua Xi is a poet and artist.
