- **Event Description**: In this workshop, we will follow fungi from liquid culture to grain spawn to your very own mycelium grow bag!About this EventHave you been wondering how to make your own mycelium Grow Bag? OR how to explore growing fungi on alternative substrates? This workshop will introduce you to the world of fungi - How they eat, breathe, and grow. Whether you want to explore fungi for materials, food, bioremediation, or other interests, the skills learned here will build your foundation for working with fungi.Beginning with understanding the Kingdom of Fungi, we will learn how fungi explore and interact with their environment. This will inform which ingredients and growing conditions support healthy growth for specific fungi. Then, using liquid cultures of local NY fungi strains, we will inoculate grain jars, which will be transferred to larger grow bags. Participants will leave with their own inoculated grain jars and mycelium grow bags. Currently, he supports New York State's Affordable Housing decarbonization efforts as a Sustainability Specialist, providing expertise in building systems design and materials. His work spans scales ranging from residential construction to furniture to novel material composites. Drawn to Genspace by the opportunity to expand his work with fungi, he focuses on developing new materials for the construction industry and supporting biomaterials education.
