Dance Lab 88: Social Presencing Theater ~ Ecstatic Dance
For this week's Dance Lab, we will be joined by Heather Huggins & Lynda Sing for an exploration into Social Presencing Theatre."Social Presenting Theater is a mindful and collaborative movement methodology that moves us towards personal and collective creative transformation. Social Presencing Theater was developed by Arawana Hayashi, who believes “the gateway to creativity is to activate your senses” and that “the aesthetic dimension is probably the most underrated dimension in all leadership, in all social change...” The gist of the method’s framework is simple: the quality of results produced by any system depends on the quality of awareness from which people in the system operate. This artful form draws upon elements of improvisational dance, theater, contemplative practices, and reflective dialogue. In a safe(r), compassionate, and mindfully held space, you’ll be introduced to some of the simple movement practices of this methodology, inviting you to refine awareness of your individual body and the collective social body. The intention is that from this place we can discover fresh new insights and inspiration, allowing our embodiment to guide us to individual and collective health. "This will be followed by an Ecstatic Dance, ending with a closing sound meditation. Space is limited, so we suggest getting your tickets in advance..Dance Lab is a weekly class presented by Ecstatic Dance NYC with the intention of creating a consistent space for us to gather as a community to Dance. It will be lighter version of the monthly Ecstatic Dances; fewer people, a more intimate space and some facilitation to experiment with different ways of expressing ourselves using sound and movement. Each class will have a warm-up class, where we will invite in different teachers from various forms of Dance, movement, singing and other modalities for us to explore and experiment with. From there, we will transition into an Ecstatic Dance with a DJ where we will integrate what we learned during the class into the Dance itself..New to Ecstatic Dance? Here's a little bit about what it is:Ecstatic Dance gathers for a transformative, electronic music journey, mixed with intention in an inspiring space where we get to express ourselves freely.
