CUP TASTERS BOOTCAMP 3.0

We are blessed and favored to be back and at it, running the third iteration of the Hyarista Cup Tasters Bootcamp in one of the busiest months for specialty coffee this year!

I'm so pleased to be able to welcome prospective tasters from near and far to our city right on the heels of New York Coffee Fest and in preparation for the USCTC Nationals at the end of the month! It's a whirlwind of a time, but all that excitement is truly where all the fun resides.

You know the drill! The wonderful folks at Chyelle have opened their space to us and our coffee selections will be sponsored by the talented Loveless Coffees! Bushwick is holding it down for us in v3 of Bootcamp. Breakfast will be provided by our friends at Oatly, then we will roll into our education. We began by giving our group an in-depth readthrough of the USCTC R&R (rules and regulations). We start here to demistify some of the competition standards and lingo some may be unfamiliar with and get everyone to a comfortable understanding of this competition's format & goals.

After our little study session we will begin the tasting portion of the event. Palate stretches, blind cupping, and finally triangulation sets. For the uninitiated, triangulations are sets of three cupping bowls where two are identical and one is unique. Your job, as a taster, is to correctly identify the odd one out. The whole purpose of our Bootcamp is building your confidence in this skill & expanding your knowledge to the point where you feel comfortable setting up triangulations on your own. You know, for when you want to take on the USCTC ;)

The final leg will be the mock competition, setting up heats to simulate the experience of triangulating alongside others competing against the same time clock.
