Culturally Responsive Text Selection & Lesson Planning Across the Content Areas; Part 1&2
April 20th, 2019 - In this session participants will learn how to select and use social justice/multicultural texts in their content learning. Specifically, participants will practice the the strategy of "layering texts"which is a practice of using several multimodal texts to supports student learning. Participants will leave with text - sets of print, images, and videos with accompanied detailed lesson plans ( created by Dr. Muhammad) that they can use in their classrooms right way.
Culturally Responsive Classroom "Management and Leadership"
May 4th 2019 - Often times, disruptive behavior serves as barriers for teaching and learning, especially when there are cultural disconnects between teachers and students. In this sesssion, the facilitators will engage teachers on the meaning of cultural behaviors and how their classroom deiscipline plans can be inclusive of culturally responsive appraches.
How do I know What They Know?: CRE Asessment 101
May 25th 2019 - In this session, the facilitator will teach formative and summative ways to assess students' learning. The facilitator will share examples of multimple forms of assessments. These assessments will beused to help teach students the language of assessment and align with the CRE equity framework. In addition, methods will be offered to show how to enage students in peer/small group assessment, portfolio assessment, and the use of modified rubrics.
