Conversation with Rina of Curvilinear Chaos at NYC Jewelry Week 2025

Curvilinear Chaos showcases the jewelry and sculpture of Rina Young inspired by the beauty of disorder. Twisting, looping, and spiraling lines move with unpredictable energy—echoing the expressive, chaotic drawings of her youth.

All week you’re invited to try on and collect pieces crafted from sterling silver and gemstones.

I began my practice by creating jewelry from found objects—drawn to the overlooked, the discarded, and the hidden beauty in everyday materials. Each piece was a small story, intimate and tactile, grounded in the idea that meaning can be assembled from fragments.

Over the years, my work has evolved in both form and inspiration. I began scaling my jewelry into wall pieces, expanding the intimate language of adornment into larger, more spatial expressions. This shift opened up new ways of thinking about material, memory, and the body.

More recently, I’ve returned to a visual language that first emerged in my childhood: chaotic, expressive drawings full of emotion and movement. These marks—once private and instinctual—now inspire new jewelry pieces, blurring the boundaries between drawing, sculpture, and ornament. In translating these abstract forms into wearable art, I explore how the raw energy of line can become something tactile and grounded.

Each November, NYC Jewelry Week proudly presents ‘The Week,’ a 7-day celebration dedicated to the art of jewelry. This annual festival invites a global audience to explore the world of jewelry through a dynamic mix of in-person and virtual experiences, spanning New York City and beyond. Our hybrid program features virtual programs streamed on YouTube alongside immersive on-site activities.

In-person, NYC Jewelry Week brings together leading figures in the jewelry industry to curate extraordinary experiences, including exhibitions, exclusive shopping opportunities, and retail collaborations. Attendees can also participate in insightful panel discussions that explore trends, challenges, and innovations in the field. Each event creates memorable jewelry moments that celebrate the creativity and craftsmanship of the industry.

Committed to inclusivity, many of our programs are free and open to the public.
