Citizen Squirrel makes civic engagement fun, accessible and tangible for young children and their grownups.
We aren't born civically engaged, but the magic age to introduce civic engagement to our children is whatever age our kids are now! Join this free, civic engagement workshop for families with young children for an interactive experience to kick off 2019 with a focus community. Elementary school-aged children are ready to be and feel a part of their communities.
At the workshop, we will hear directly from local students who have made our community better and from community leaders who want to make community involvement accessible and engaging. Workshop participants will receive a 2019 calendar of a sampler platter of community engagement ideas! Together we will pledge to take just one positive action that contributes to our community in some way.
Civic engagement means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes. Some kids are fighting for civics education in schools. We don't have to rely on schools for it, though! https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/28/us/civics-rhode-island-schools.htmlAll
